Newcastle City of Sanctuary Culinary Event

Newcastle City Council, Your Homes Newcastle (YHN), Newcastle City of Sanctuary and FoodWorks, along with a group of individuals who have come to Newcastle through the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) have come together to bring a tasty treat of dishes from the Middle East.

Newcastle is committed to welcoming those seeking sanctuary and is honoured to be recognised as a City of Sanctuary.

Newcastle City Council has supported over 250 parents and children through the VPRS scheme to resettle in the city. YHN have supported these families to settle into life here and many of those who have arrived as part of the scheme are keen to develop their skills, English and to find employment, which they are supported with through Supported Employment.

The people involved in the trial will have the chance to cook in a professional kitchen, show their culinary skills, increase their employability and English skills, as well as their confidence.

City of Sanctuary are hopeful that there may be scope to get dishes such as these, cooked by people resettling in Newcastle as part of the regular offer from FoodWorks carts in the future, offering people the chance to gain skills, experience and ultimately employment, and offering customers delicious food.

The event is taking place at the newly refurbished Fenham Library on Tuesday 26th March between 11am – 2pm.

There is no need to book and the food on offer is completely free. Please do pass this invitation on to anyone else who may be interested.
