Zone West is a project led by Blue Stone Consortium member North East Wellbeing, working with primary schools and GP surgeries in the West End, aiming to link health, education and social care to give the best service to local families.
We are very pleased to have been selected as a special vehicle for the initiative to manage the administration of grants. The project is now established in 4 local primary schools in the West End of Newcastle and is receiving social prescribing referrals from 3 local GP practices. 49 children and their families have benefited from interventions to date.
North East Wellbeing are in the process of designing a brand new website, where they will provide updates on the initiative’s progress and links for parents. Do look out for this!
During the challenging times we all face in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project currently cannot continue their work with children in schools. Until work can resume, they want to share some ideas, games, activities and links to other trustworthy sites to help families bust boredom with arts and crafts, fun family games, physical activity, emotional wellbeing and healthy affordable recipes.
You can also join them via their Facebook page by searching for ‘Zone West Families Hub’.

How to Recognise if your Child is Seriously Ill
We know during the lockdown it can be very hard to decide if, and when your unwell child needs medical care. Many families are anxious about coming to seek healthcare. This advice was written for parents visiting the Great North Children’s Hospital.
We want to share it with you, to help you decide what is best for your child, if they are unwell. Most children with COVID-19 infection get a very mild illness. Very few have been admitted to hospital so far in our region. Rarely children can get very sick and this leaflet can help you recognise deterioration earlier. Remember parents and carers know best. If you think your child is seriously unwell and you are concerned please get help.
An information leaflet can be accessed below:

It would be great if you could give feedback on the leaflet by taking part in the survey included in this letter:
